What do the awards cover?

The awards cover:

  • Direct payment of tuition fees (at the standard UK/EU rate – International students will have to the pay the difference between UK and International fees)
  • Maintenance allowance for accommodation and living expenses
  • Payment for limited teaching and other duties carried out by the student for their department

How are awards divided between subjects?

A minimum of 11 awards will be made across Humanities and Social Sciences Departments as follows:

  • 4 awards in History or Classics and/or Ancient History
  • 3 awards in Politics and International Relations
  • 1 award in Arab and Islamic Studies
  • 3 awards in Sociology, Philosophy, Theology (including Egenis)

Who is eligible for the awards?

Studentships are awarded on academic merit and are open to applicants from the UK/EU and overseas. Successful students will probably have applied for Research Council funding or equivalent competitive schemes. To be eligible you must:

  • have received an offer from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences for full-time study for MPhil/PhD by 13 June 2008

The awards will only be made to those applicants who go on to enrol within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Exeter. Awards are payable in instalments on enrolment and continuation is subject to satisfactory annual progression.

How do I apply?

There is no separate application procedure for these awards. All you have to do is apply for your MPhil or PhD. All eligible applicants who have been offered a place by the deadline of 13 June 2008 will automatically be considered for an award. It is very important that you apply for your MPhil/PhD early enough to have received an offer by the June deadline, or by February 2008 if you are also seeking Research Council funding.

When will I hear if I have been successful?

All successful applicants will be notified by the end of June 2008.
