Said Business School: Skoll Scholarships

Each year, the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship awards five full scholarships to individuals working in the field who wish to enter the one-year full-time Oxford MBA programme. Skoll Scholarships are designed to give social entrepreneurs the knowledge, skills and networks they need to turn ideas into reality; and deepen their conviction for doing so.

To be considered, you need to meet the following criteria:-

  • Candidates will demonstrate evidence of the personal qualities strongly correlated with social entrepreneurship, and these are likely to have strongly influenced their prior choice of work. These qualities include:
  • Single-mindedness and persistence in pursuit of a social benefit goal, including a willingness to face failure and start again
  • A bias towards action rather than reflection
  • A tendency to explore the environment for opportunities and resources
  • A willingness to take personal, and sometimes financial, risks
  • A habit of developing a network and subtly or unsubtly exploiting its members.

  • Candidates will also need to demonstrate how a business education can contribute to the wider development or the local community or community of interest they work with in the social entrepreneurship movement. We view our scholarships and the learning they support as an investment, so preference will be given to candidates who can show this opportunity is likely to significantly benefit others.

To be considered for a Skoll Scholarship, you need only state your interest in the "scholarships" section of the MBA application form.

Skoll Scholarships are awarded as soon as suitable candidates are identified, so you are encouraged to apply early. We will award no more than five scholarships in any year, and will roll forward scholarships if we do not feel we have a sufficient number of strong entries.

If you would like to applyfor a waiver, you should be confident you meet the requirements for the MBA and the Skoll scholarship, then you send your CV and a covering letter explaining your financial circumstances and your request to sumeeta.maheshwari@sbs.ox.ac.uk .
