Moving away from theory, the Investigative Journalism course offers practical training. Learn to put together a piece of investigative journalism, use sources and build a publishable case from a team of highly-respected journalists. You'll learn the essential skills of investigative journalism, with lots of practical advice based on the trainers' own careers.

Topics include:

  • Starting and then sustaining an investigation
  • Interviewing techniques
  • Using a methodological approach to obtaining information
  • Building a case using human and documentary sources
  • Handling sources and collecting information
  •  The role of investigative reporting in democratic and non-democratic societies
  •  Writing the story and adapting it for multiple media (print, radio, internet and television)
  • and much more!

The course also includes an interview role-playing session where you’ll have the chance to practice your newly learned skills, as well as a review session to evaluate your own investigative ideas and proposals.
TOL courses always attract a great international mix of participants (our most recent Investigative Journalism course included participants from France, Croatia, Portugal, Belarus, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Krygyzstan, the Netherlands, the UK and the US). Students regularly cite this as one of the most important aspects of the course, giving them new contacts, friends and insight into other countries and cultures.

The course will be held at the Czech Agricultural University, located in the Suchdol district of Prague on a hill overlooking the city.
