International Master's Programme in Information Technology 2009 - 2011

University of Joensuu - Lappeenranta University of Technology - University of Kuopio

International Master's Program in Information Technology (IMPIT) is the unique two years long educational program, currently running in Eastern Finland Universities in Lappeenranta (LUT), Joensuu and Kuopio.

The program was originally created for internatinal students of Computer Science, Telecommunications and related areas. Since 2000, IMPIT has been all the time enlarging and we have had already students from more than a dozen of countries, mostly from Europe, Asia and Africa.

The application period is 1.3.2009 – 30.4.2009 12:00 Finnish time. Applications need to be sent only by traditional mail, other means of delivery are not accepted. Applications arriving after the deadline will not be considered. At most 20 students will be selected into the programme.

At the time of admission, applicants are required to hold a B.Sc. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Communications Engineering or equivalent degree corresponding to at least three years of full-time high-education academic studies (an equivalent of 180 ECTS credit units in the Finnish university system). The degree should include enough studies in computer science completed at excellent levels. The basic skills expected are: programming skills, knowledge about the theoretical foundations of computer science, data structures and algorithms.

Active knowledge of written and spoken English is a must. Every candidate has to declare this explicitly (a valid TOEFL, IELTS, or comparable certificate, see recommended minimal requirements at the bottom), if English is not the first language of the candidate.

All documents, copies of original documents, and official translations need to be certified for authenticity by a registered public notary.

Admission results will be published in early June 2009. Students who have been accepted will receive a Certificate of Admission and an information package by post.

Supporting documents to be enclosed with the application:

  • Official transcript of university records from the home university in English, or an officially certified translation of it.
  • A certified copy of BSc. diploma or equivalent
  • Curriculum Vitae (one A4 page)
  • A letter of recommendation from a local academic authority, preferably known to the IMPIT-university
  • Generally recognized English language certificate mailed directly from the test administrator
  • Optionally, an example of a link to own individual work in English (research paper, report, essay, art, literature review, documented software, and similar). This should be translated into English or Finnish.

All documents must be officially attested authentic copies. All translations must be officially certified and accompanied by copies of the original documents. Applications will not be considered unless the documents requested are in English.
