Nederland: Postdoc in Photons in Strong Scattering Media

Job description
In the group Photon Scattering we are looking for an experimental postdoc to work in the area of light scattering in nanomaterials. We expect the postdoc to pursue research on his/her own as well as to take part in the supervising of PhD students in the group. Own initiatives will be strongly appreciated. Research topics include the study of Anderson localization of light, ultra-miniature lasers ("scattering laser" and "random laser") and quantum optical aspects of light propagation. Strongly scattering samples are produced in the group with the help of wet chemical etching techniques.

More information about this research project can be found in the following papers:
Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 250801 (2003)
Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 243901 (2002)
Phys. Rev. Lett. 90, 055501 (2003)

Location
The FOM Institute for Atomic and Molecular Physics (AMOLF) is one of the national research institutes of the Stichting FOM (the Foundation for Fundamental Research on Matter). The institute employs around 200 people, half of whom are research staff (faculty staff, postdocs, and PhD students). AMOLF provides a dynamic environment, where advanced research is performed in research groups comprising around 8 scientists on average. See also http://www.amolf.nl.
The group Photon Scattering studies the characteristics of the propagation of light in strongly inhomogeneous nanomaterials. The activities in the group include the use of advanced optical techniques, developing state-of-the-art sample preparation techniques, and development of necessary theory for interpretation of the experimental results. Our group has just moved from the University of Twente to FOM institute AMOLF.

Requirements
We are looking for an experimental scientist (physical chemist/physicist), preferably with experience or interest in the field of optics. The successful candidate will have a strong affinity with theory.

Conditions of employment
You will be employed by the FOM-foundation for a fixed period of 2 years. Your salary will be up to a maximum of 3,396 Euro gross per month, depending on your level of experience. For your pension you will participate in 'Stichting Pensioenfonds ABP'.
The conditions of employment of the FOM-foundation are laid down in the Collective Labour Agreement for Research Centres (CAO-Onderzoekinstellingen), more exclusive information is available at this website under Personeelsinfo (in Dutch) or under Personnel (in English). General information about working at FOM can be found in the English part of this website under Personnel. The 'FOM-sollicitatiecode' (in Dutch) applies to this position.
