PhD position in Organic Chemistry

The Organic Chemistry Institute (OCI) at the University of Zürich is seeking one Ph.D. student by May 2010.
The aim of the project is the DESIGN, SYNTHESIS and BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION of novel inhibitors of proteins involved in cell-cycle regulation processes and its development into potential anticancer drugs. In collaboration with the Biochemistry Institute at the University of Zürich, the preliminary scaffolds obtained by in silico methods will be obtained in the lab by chemical synthesis and will be tested in the corresponding biological assays.

The succesful candidates should have a solid background in synthetic organic chemistry. Previous knowledge and keen interest in computational chemistry and biological assays (cell culture, peptide/protein synthesis) is a plus . The Ph.D. work will be developed between in the group of Prof. Nevado at the OCI although in strong interaction with Prof. Caflisch at the BIOC within an exciting interactive research team in a multidisciplinary fashion.

Ideal candidates will already possess excellent communication skills including proficiency in English.
