PhD Student, Nuclear signaling by the APP intracellular domain and its role in Alzheimer’s disease

We are looking for a PhD Student at the Division of Psychiatry Research at the University of Zurich on the topic of Nuclear signaling by the APP intracellular domain and its role in Alzheimer’s disease.

Description:
Altered proteolytic processing of the ?-amyloid precursor protein (APP) is a central event in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). APP is sequentially processed to release the A? peptide and the APP intracellular domain (AICD). Our group has studied the nuclear signaling function of AICD and uncovered a link to the amyloidogenic processing pathway of APP that has been implicated to be causative in AD (von Rotz et al., JCS 2004; Konietzko et al., NBA 2008; Goodger et al., JCS 2009). We now plan to analyze the regulation of AICD signaling in greater detail and identify the regulated transcriptome. We are using state of the art approaches in cell culture and transgenic mice employing molecular biological techniques and microscopic imaging.

Education:
The successful applicant should have an education in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or equal disciplines. The candidate should be determined to perform experiments that increase our understanding of AD. Knowledge in the field of neurobiology/cell biology is of advantage. Crucial are relevant practical experiences in working with mice and especially with molecular biological techniques, including transcriptome analysis and bioinformatics.

Only complete applications will be considered and require: CV, A-level (Matura), University degree (including marks) and certified practical courses, summary of Diploma or Master thesis, references or letters of recommendation.
