September 2005 the AGRIS MUNDUS program was launched.

For candidates outside the European Union 24 scholarships will be available to Agris Mundus for 2006.


We specially ask your attention for the MSc Land and Water Management by Wageningen University in the Netherlands and Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL) in Denmark There are two sets of scholarships available:

  •  twelve scholarships for the two year MSc program for worldwide application (also including Asia)
    twelve scholarships additional for Asia for the two year MSc program. Respecting the following balance: 6 from India, 1 from China, 1 from Malaysia, 1 from Thailand, 3 from the other countries all together (Taiwan and Hong Kong excepted).
  • A two years training for agricultural development and management of natural resources, which facilitates the training of the students and international cooperation and it is based on mobility of students. The double degree will be delivered by two Research and Higher Education Institutes of the European Union

The AGRIS MUNDUS Masters Course is a product of NATURA, a network of European Institutions for higher education in agriculture. In existence since 1988, NATURA collaborates closely with institutions in Asia, Africa and the Americas in providing post graduate education and training opportunities. It focuses on improving the management of rural and agricultural development for disadvantaged populations. This innovative approach is based on mobility of people, different disciplines exchanging experiences and the establishment of a common high quality standard in education and training.

The AGRIS MUNDUS Master courses objectives are to train students able to cope with the current global/international concerns in agriculture and rural development. Graduates will be qualified to identify and critically analyse key factors shaping the development of crop, forest and animal production, the management of research and rural development projects and finally, the sustainable use of natural resources and the environment. They will be trained to formulate and provide effective and appropriate responses to complex agriculture and natural resources related issues.

Duration: 2 years (120 ECTS).

Teaching languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, according to the various M1/M2 possible combinations.

The programme content includes 15 possible M1/M2 combinations. The programme includes one year (M1) in one institution of one country of the European Union, and one year (M2) in a second institution in another country, for one of the 7 possible specialisations as follows:

  • Land and water management
  • Agricultural Development Economics
  • Horticultural crops
  • Livestock production & systems
  • Tropical rural forestry
  • Human Nutrition and Food Systems Agricultural Systems Research and Development.

The 4th semester is devoted to thesis work, generally in tropical countries, with double supervision.
Institutions involved:

  • the Wageningen University and Research Centre in the Netherlands
  • the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University (KVL) in Denmark
  • the University of Reading in UK
  • the University of Cork in Ireland
  • the University of Catania in Italy
  • the Polytechnic University of Madrid in Spain
  • and the Centre National d'Etudes Agronomiques des Régions Chaudes of Agropolis, Montpellier, France

The deadline for submitting the application forms for both the students and the scholars is January 25, 2006.

MASTERS DEGREES AWARDED
Students will be awarded two nationally recognized masters degrees (diplomas of University 1 and University 2), together with a specific NATURA Masters degree in Sustainable Development in Agriculture, and a joint diploma supplement.

Number of students: 50 per year (ratio staff/student: approximately 1:2)

ADMISSION CRITERIA
Bachelor of Sciences (180 ECTS) in a field related to agricultural development or, alternatively, a BA in the Social Sciences or equivalent from a reputable institution;
In the selection process, preference will be given to candidates with appropriate professional experience with strongly convincing recommendation by an academic or a professional body;
Sufficient language level in English, Spanish or Italian, depending on the training track for which they apply.

FEES AND LIVING EXPENSES
The subscription fees are the same, irrespective of the chosen study track.

EU students: 10000 euros for the whole masters course (1st year and 2nd year).
3rd countries students: 15000 euros for the whole master course (1st year and 2nd year).

THE SUBSCRIPTION FEES INCLUDE:
The costs of the training,
The cost of the organisation of the orientation week and the research methodology joint workshop,
The costs of the language courses, in parallel or before the academic training,
The administrative and secretariat costs for running the programme,
The research grant allocated to the student for the master thesis.

The subscription fees do not include the living expenses (approximately 800 euros per month), nor the transportation costs to and within Europe (to the research methodology workshop or from University 1 to University 2).
