Two PhD Scholarships for Doctoral Programme in Comparative Politics


As part of the Norglobal research project entiled 'European integration in higher education and research in the Western Balkans' two PhD scholarships will be awarded for the Doctoral Programme in Comparative Politics at the Faculty of Political Science of the University of Zagreb.

Scholarship recipients will receive a monthly stipend to cover the tuition fee and cost of living.

The scholarship is awarded for three years, conditional on timely fulfilment of all academic and project-related requirements.

The call is open to citizens from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

This call for applictions is for enrollment in the academic year 2011/2012. The doctoral programme starts in the spring semester 2012.

Upon successful completion of the doctoral programme graduates are awarded the academic degree of doctor of sciences in the field social sciences, discipline of political science (dr.sc.).

The Director of the doctoral programme is prof.dr.sc. Mirjana Kasapović.

General eligibility requirements
The doctoral programme in comparative politics at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagereb is open to:
• graduates from BA and MA programmes at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb, as well as other social sciences and humanities programmes at universities in Croatia and abroad.
• graduates from scientific masters programmes (pre-Bologna) in political science or other social sciences and humanities programmes in Croatia or abroad.
• graduates from specialist professional graduate programmes in political science or other social sciences and humanities programmes in Croatia or abroad.

Applicants with foreign academic credentials must have their degrees recognized by the relevant bodies in Croatia.

The call is open to applicants with GPA between 3.5 and 5.0 (or equivalent) from completed degree programme. Exceptionally, the call is open to applicants with GPA of 3.0 and above, but in such cases the application must be accompanied by two academic letters of recommendation.

Applicants must be proficient in the English language.

The tuition fee for the entire doctoral programme is 60.000,00 Croatian Kuna, or 10.000,00 per semester. The tuition fee is paid before the start of each semester to the Faculty of Political Science bank account: 2360000-1101217644 (OIB 28011548575 ), model 00, call 12.

Scholarship eligibility requirements
Apart from the general eligibility requirements for doctoral students, additional conditions for applicants to this scholarship programme are:
- MA or MSc degree in the social sciences or humanities;
- Minimum GPA 4.0 (or equivalent) in all completed programmes of study;
- Proficiency in Croatian (alternatively Bosnian or Serbian) and English language;
- Applicants shall write their doctoral dissertation in the field of higher education policy in the Western Balkans. One dissertation should focus on the role of higher education in regional development, and the other should focus on Europeanization of higher education and science in the Western Balkans;
- Applicants shall write their doctoral dissertation in English.
