International Summer-School “Globalizing South-Eastern Europe”

The Universities of Leipzig, Bogazici University Istanbul, Graz, Zagreb and London (School of Slavonic and East European Studies) are announcing a joint summer school for 2012 and 2013 on the topic of “Globalizing South-Eastern Europe”. The summer school is designed for two years with a first session taking place in August and September 2012 in Leipzig, a second one in Croatia in summer 2013. This year´s summer school will discuss theoretical problems of globalization and will focus on a global perspective for Southeast European history and politics. Participants are asked to take part in the seminars and to prepare a research project on their own within the framework of the programme. The research project should be finalized in a research paper until next spring and the papers will be discussed during the second summer school in 2013. Part of the summer school´s goal is to draft a curriculum how Southeast European history and politics could be integrated more into a global perspective within university programmes and teaching. The summer school is open for up to 25 Ph.D and M.A. students from the five universities participating in the programme (five students from each of the participating universities).
Students should apply until May 31st 2012 with:
- a CV,
- a record of their grades
- and a short presentation of their idea of a research topic (no more than one page) to the coordinator of their university.
The applicants will be selected by the joint coordinators of the programme. The summer school can be accepted as part of the individual course programme at the student´s home university. All teaching is in English. Travel expenditure (90%, up to 270€) and accommodation will be covered by the organizers.
