Leeward Community College international scholarships

University of Hawaii in Pearl City, Hawaii is offering new international students scholarships to qualified applicants effective Fall 2012!

Description

Leeward Community College, part of the University of Hawaii system, was established in 1969 and has over a 40 year history of excellence in education. Leeward CC is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, a regional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education and the U.S. Department of Education.

The mission of International Programs is to support, promote and advance an international dimension on the Leeward campus to facilitate a greater appreciation of cross-cultural relations and international issues in order to prepare students to become global citizens. To that end, Leeward CC encourages foreign students to study on its campus and supports quality programs that provide our students and faculty to participate in academic and cultural enrichment experiences abroad.

Award: $3,000 per year ($1,500 per semester), renewable for a second year based on continuing eligibility. Applied as a credit toward Leeward tuition and fees only. No cash awards.

English Language Training Award: $1850 for first 8 week session in the English Language Institute for students needing English Language Training prior to enrollment in the undergraduate degree program. (only for degree seeking applicants receiving the international student scholarship).

Eligibility

  • New incoming freshman only (no transfer students)
  • Scholarship application must accompany Leeward Admission application
  • Minimum GPA 3.2 cumulative at high school (must be maintained at Leeward for continued eligibility)
  • Undergraduate degree seeking students on an F-1 visa

English Proficiency

  • TOEFL: 61 iBT or above – students are eligible for undergraduate study but must take a College English placement exam.
  • Below 61 iBT or NO TOEFL – students will enroll in the English Language Institute to prepare for undergraduate study and receive the English Language Training Award described above for the first session of study.

The I-20 will reflect this scholarship. The total on the I-20 generally needed is $15,856. With the scholarship this is reduced to $12,856.
