MSc Santos Scholarships in Energy and Resources Management

Description

UCL offers highly competitive Santos Scholarships to the most outstanding students to study full-time for the Master’s of Science in Energy and Resources Management (MSc). The Santos Scholarships support the most outstanding students pursuing the MSc and are now available for students to commence their studies from February 2013.

Eligibility

The scholarships are available for students commencing their studies each February.

  • The scholarship is open to Australian and international students to study full-time on the MSc in Energy and Resources Management programme.
  • The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence and potential. Financial circumstances are not taken into account.

Scholarship

The value of each MSc scholarship is the total tuition fees for the two years of the programme (AUD$64,500) paid directly to UCL (Australia). The scholarship is tenable for two years (full time), subject to continued satisfactory academic progress (achieving a grade average of 60% or better in first year). In addition to the cost of tuition fees, those who are not in full-time employment may be awarded a stipend for living expenses of up to A$25,000 payable in each year of the programme. Where applicable, the scholarship stipend will normally be payable to the recipient in monthly instalments over the duration of the programme and is intended for maintenance purposes. The award letter and payment will be administered by UCL. The scholarship may not normally be held alongside other scholarships, studentships, awards or bursaries and recipients of the scholarship may not undertake additional full-time university studies alongside the programme.

Application

Applicants who wish to be considered for a Santos Scholarship must apply online. A part of the application process is the submission of an essay of up to 1000 words. The essay requires students to critically analyse the statement: “The Kyoto Protocol requires liable countries to reduce their production of Greenhouse gases by stipulated percentages over the period 2008 to 2012. But surely such reductions should be based upon consumption not production!.” Discuss this statement in terms of the cost and availability of alternative large-scale power generation technologies. This essay should be no more than 1000 words (including footnotes, but excluding references) and will be checked for plagiarism using Turnitin®. Applicants who are shortlisted for Santos Scholarships on the basis of their academic qualifications will be ranked according to the quality and originality of their assignment. The applicants who meet the criteria for UCL admission will be ranked in their scholarship application on:

  • academic performance;
  • industry experience;
  • a 1000 word essay ;
  • a personal statement;
  • an interview (where candidates will be asked to demonstrate their commitment to the UCL graduate values); and
  • academic and/or industry references

The deadline for sending applications is 31 August 2012.
