HSF Overview
The Institute for Humane Studies awards scholarships up to $12,000 for undergraduate or graduate study in the United States or abroad. Last year IHS awarded 120 scholarships to outstanding undergraduates, graduate students, law students, and professional students who are exploring the principles, practices, and institutions necessary to a free society through their academic work.

Required Materials
To apply for a Humane Studies Fellowship, complete the online application. The online application requires a short registration process (even if you have previously registered on TheIHS.org) and allows online document uploads of all supporting materials. If you do not have electronic versions of the required documents, you may also mail the following supporting materials to IHS:

  • college transcripts (unofficial copies are accepted)
  • official score reports for your most recent standardized test (GRE, LSAT, etc.)
  • at least two recommendations
  • a writing sample of no more than 30 pages
  • formatted resume (optional)
  • $25.00 non-refundable application fee.

Please begin collecting supporting materials early, as certain items may take time to compile. Instructions for how to submit supporting materials are detailed at the end of the online application.

Deadline: December 31, 2005.

Awards will be announced in Spring 2006.
