Erasmus Mundus Master in Georesources Engineering

Description

The master program is a 2 years (120 ECTS) program. The program aims at finding the right balance between knowledge of mineral resources (geology, resource characterisation, reserve estimation, modelling) and processing (comminution, preconcentration, leaching, waste disposal,…). The program also includes a broader view on life cycle analysis of mineral resources and urban mining potential. It includes a series of professional seminars to shed light on strategic issues, economic and environmental challenges, social dimensions of mining operations, etc. The geometallurgical perspective on mineral resources is at he heart of the program philosophy. Modern teaching involving project-based learning and field work will be promoted throughout the cursus.

The consortium will deliver a triple diploma:

  • Master in Natural Resources Engineering (Sweden)
  • Master en Sciences de l’Ingénieur Géologue (France)
  • Ingénieur Civil des Mines et Géologue (Belgium)

Selection criteria

Selection of candidates will be a cooperative process between partner institutions and will be based on a consensus. The selection procedure is based on academic qualifications, quality and quantity aspects (Academic background: 40%, Motivation letter: 20% Recommendation letters: 10%, Language skills: 10%, Work experience: 10%, others: 10%). The program is aimed at candidates having at least a Bachelor degree of minimum 180 ECTS with at least 60 ECTS in the area of Physics, Chemistry, Geology, or Environmental, Minerals or Metallurgical Engineering or similar. At least 22,5 credits in Mathematics at university level is required so as documented skills in English language. Holders of a Master degree in Geology with professional experience are also invited to apply.
 

Scholarship

The Erasmus Mundus program is aimed at both EU (Cat. B) and non-EU (Cat. A) students. Students will benefit from individual scholarships.

European countries:

  • 27 EU Member States
  • Iceland
  • Liechtenstein
  • Norway

The grant provided by the European Commission covers the following expenditures:

  • Travelling costs
  • Accomodation
  • Tuition fees to the EMerald program
  • Insurance fees
  • Monthly allowance

Category A Master Students => Category A scholarships

Category A scholarships are awarded to students who come from a country other than an European country and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in these countries. The scholarship for Category A Students (Third countries) is divided as follow:

Amount I: 8000€ – For travel and installation
Amount II: 16000€ – Participation costs including tuition fees and insurance
Amount III: 24000€ – Monthly allowance based on 1000€ monthly allowance for 24 months
Total: 48000 €

Category B Master Students => Category B scholarships

Category B scholarships are awarded to EU students who do not fulfil the category A criteria defined above. The scholarship for Category B students is divided as follow:

Amount I: Not applicable
Amount II: 8000€ – Participation costs including tuition fees and insurance
Amount III: 12000€ – Monthly allowance based on 500€ monthly allowance for 24 months
Total: 20000€

Please be aware that you can apply to more than one Erasmus Mundus scholarships, but no more than three. If you apply to more than three Erasmus Mundus scholarships you will be automatically excluded from all of them.
 

Application procedure

Please find below main documents to be provided for EMerald application. Make sure you have all these documents before starting the application process.

  • Nationality certificate dated of the year of the registration issued by the local municipal authority or a copy of the passport.
  • Photo ID.
  • Your updated résumé.
  • Motivation letter.
  • Copy of your Secondary School Diploma translated in English or French.
  • Copies, certified or authenticated by the institution attended of your higher education studies diploma and a transcript of records with a translation into English or French.
  • An English Proficiency test or document (TOEFL, IELTS, proof that English was your previous education language, any other document stating your English proficiency).
  • Please provide, year by year, official documents for the past five years if they are not covered by your last diploma (Official declaration of enrolment for higher education or university studies, original employment certificate – specifying occupation start and end dates, declaration of military service) translated into English or French.
  • Recommendation contacts: we will ask them recommendation letters. Please note that we consider as an added value a recommendation letter from a partner or associated university.
