Seattle University School of Law’s Scholars for Justice Award is a three-year, full-tuition scholarship supporting students committed to

• Public Interest Law
• Service and Leadership

We are pleased to offer the Scholars for Justice Award as a part of a continuing commitment to our mission of educating leaders for a just and humane world. Seattle University School of Law educates lawyers who distinguish themselves through their outstanding legal skills and their dedication to law in the service of justice.

This award supports two students in each class and the first awards will be made to two students in the entering class of 2006. Provided to encourage the Scholars to concentrate on public interest commitments while in law school and to engage in a career in public interest law upon graduation, scholars will be asked to make a moral commitment to devote much of their careers to public interest law or to donate to the School of Law an amount at least equal to award funds received.

Scholars are selected on the basis of their:

• Demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career as a public interest lawyer;
• Prior involvement in significant  public service and/or social justice activities prior to coming to law school; 
• Academic achievement. (Those eligible for consideration are drawn from the top twenty five percent of the applicant pool.)

Scholars are expected to graduate with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. 

Application Process
To be considered for the Scholars for Justice Award, applicants must complete an application for admission with the School of Law by February 1.  Further, applicants must provide:

1. A typewritten essay of not more than two pages describing the applicant’s  background and experience, emphasizing  public interest and social justice activities and involvement. This statement is in addition to the personal statement required as part of the admissions process.
2. Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant’s public interest and/or social justice activities and involvement.
