Description

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) IDEAS Balkan International Affairs Programme is pleased to invite Applications for the 2013 Mladena and Dianko Sotirov Visiting Fellowship.

Recipients of this Fellowship will be working within the LSE IDEAS Balkan International Affairs Programme – which aims to promote the understanding of the recent history and the international affairs of the region, the challenges it faces today and the prospects of tomorrow.

This Fellowship amounts to £3000 and should cover a two (maximum three) month stay in London anytime between June – September 2013, namely travel expenses, accommodation and subsistence. The recipient will have access to shared office space at the LSE IDEAS Centre and enjoy privileges of the LSE Fellow, including access to the LSE Library, its IT resources and to all events organised at the LSE.

On the completion of his/her residency in the LSE IDEAS Centre, the Fellow is expected to have produced one Blog piece of 800-1200 words, as well as a working paper of 4,000-5,000 words of publishable quality on the topic of his/her proposed research for the fellowship. Finally he/she will be expected to contribute to the Balkan International Affairs Programme activities.

More information about London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) IDEAS:

LSE IDEAS was founded in 2008 and now runs a series of regional and topical programmes. The centre currently does research on the international affairs of East and Southeast Asia, the Balkans, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, as well as on transatlantic relations and on the history of the Cold War. LSE IDEAS is a centre for the study of international affairs, diplomacy and grand strategy. Its mission is to use LSE’s vast intellectual resources to help train skilled and open-minded leaders and to study international affairs through world-class scholarship and engagement with practitioners and decision-makers. As its name implies, IDEAS aims at understanding how today’s world came into being and how it may be changed, in line with LSE’s old motto: rerum cognoscere causas - to understand the causes of things.

Eligibility

This Fellowship is intended primarily but not exclusively, for scholars in the early stages of their career, namely doctoral candidates and post-doctoral fellows whose work and research focuses on any topic related to the history and international affairs of Bulgaria and the Balkans in the Twentieth Century and beyond.

Although candidates of Bulgarian nationality will have priority, this fellowship is also awarded to candidates of non-Bulgarian nationality. Above all, it will be the quality of the candidate and of the proposed research that will determine the selection.
