Description

Since 1997, the Institute for Advanced Study (IUSS) has activated an International Master Program in Cooperation and Development (Master CD). The growing importance of international development work and the increasing significance of international markets underline the need of a Program at the postgraduate level which trains practitioners in this field, individuals offering both specific professional skills and flexibility in order to meet the growing demands of the new world labour market. Citizens of the 21st century will need to be familiar with far more complex and new histories and geographies. Every development practitioner will eventually go through a phase of change and redefinition.

Programme

The programme comprehends a theoretic part lasting 8 months, usually from October to June, and taking place in Pavia. It comprises around 500 hours of classes and deepens the knowledge of Economics, Social and Managerial aspects related to Development and Cooperation. The Master is fully taught in English.

After the period in Pavia all students must carry out an internship which usually lasts between 3 and 6 months. Students go on the field or in the headquarters of NGOs, International Organizations and Governmental Institutions and have the great opportunity of earning first-hand experience by working side by side with professionals in the field of Cooperation and Development. During the internship, students must write a thesis linked to their experience or to a research issue of their interest. After the discussion of this final thesis students will be awarded the Master Diploma.

The program provides approximately 500 hours of class, for an overall weight of 75 ECTS.
