The Fund was established in 2012 and awards art that helps raise awareness, communicate, stimulate debate and transform our understanding of war, violent conflict and social upheaval.

We welcome submissions from artists of all nationalities and at any stage of their careers. The deadline for submissions is 1 May and the Award is presented on International Peace Day (21 September) in London (United Kingdom) each year.

The Artraker Fund was established in 2012 by INCAS Consulting Ltd and is the brainchild of political artist, Manali Jagtap-Nyheim. The Fund celebrates and awards new ideas and art works that make a direct positive change in countries which have experienced social upheaval and violent conflict.

Its name is derived from “Muckraker”, a term coined by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906. It refers to the adversarial journalistic movement before the First World War that investigated and published truthful reports on social issues. “Artraker” draws on this tradition.

A first of its kind, the Fund aspires to create fertile ground for the encounter and exchange between peace-makers and peace-builders on the one hand, and artists operating in this environment but using different methodologies.

The Award

Announced every year on 21 September (International Peace Day) the Artraker Award provides visibility and financial support to artists working on art and conflict. It recognizes new ways to raise awareness, communicate, stimulate debate and transform our understanding of war, violent conflict and social upheaval.

An international panel of experts from both the art and peace-making/peace-building disciplines assesses submissions to the Artraker Fund. They look for experimentation and engagement, audacity, change and capacity to inspire. The final prize is granted to inspirational, creative projects and imaginative initiatives.

The Fund welcomes submissions from artists of all nationalities and at any stage of their careers.

The Artraker Award for 2013 is for GBP 2,500. Deadline for submissions 1 May 2013.

The Artraker Fund is looking to grow the annual award. If you want to help us do this, please get in touch.
