Contract Type: 10 month fixed term

Salary: €30,961 p.a. pro rata
(Less 10% for new entrants to the Public Sector)


DESCRIPTION:

The School of Languages, Literature, Culture and Communication is a large and vibrant unit within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and plays a vital role in promoting quality research, teaching and learning at the University of Limerick.

The School is now seeking to recruit a Teaching Assistant in Journalism for a ten-month period from 1 September 2013 to 30 June 2014 to support the development of Journalism at the University of Limerick. This post is renewable twice by mutual agreement.

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • A minimum five years’ relevant experience as sub-editor and print journalist (in regional and/or national media)
  • A relevant primary degree.

The ability to demonstrate experience in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage:

  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in Journalism
  • Experience in producing/editing newspapers/publications at a regional and/or national level
  • Academic administration
  • Good knowledge of one of the languages taught in the School and Irish, in particular.

The appointee will be expected to participate fully in the development, administration and delivery of undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes in Journalism and to develop and/or maintain close links with the media industry in Ireland. Research is not a central aspect of this post, but an active research and/or publication record, including collaborative research activity, will be viewed very positively.

The appointee will be expected to undertake such duties as are directed and required by the Head of School.
