Respect & Responsibility in Virtual Social Spaces

Description

The first time cooperation between the European Youth Foundation and the Pestalozzi Programme will take the form of a training bringing together participants from the youth sector, the adult education sector and the teacher training area from 12-15 November 2013 at the European Youth Centre of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France.

This training will deal with the following issue: “Respect – Responsible attitudes and behaviour in the virtual social space”. Complementing the Council of Europe’s flagship programme “Young People Combating Hate Speech Online” running between 2012 – 2014, it will focus on the role education -formal/informal- can play in developing responsible attitudes and behaviours in the virtual social space. At the end of the course participants will be better equipped to take action to counter irresponsible behaviour, raise awareness and educate others on the importance of responsible behaviour, while being themselves examples of good practice.

Therefore, the EYF is looking for 15 participants from the youth sector to take part in the “Respect – Responsible attitudes and behaviour in the virtual social space” training!

All travel and subsistence costs will be covered by the Council of Europe and participants will be reimbursed (on presentation of the relevant receipts) according to Council of Europe rules.

If you are interested in the topic and you have some previous experience in using the virtual social space, while having carried out/supported activities with your NGO – this invitation is for you!

After the training course the participants will be in better position to promote respectful attitudes and behaviour in the virtual social space; in particular they will be better equipped to:

• apply responsible attitudes and behaviour in their use of the virtual social space and take action to counter irresponsible behaviour and attitudes in the virtual social space
• raise awareness in teachers and learners, in their families and communities of
• the importance of such responsible behaviour
• include training for responsible social behaviour in their teaching and training

The participants will form a network of education professionals (formal and nonformal) equipped to continue the training on the international, national, regional and local level with a shared view of the competences which need to be developed and of the appropriate methodology of training and teaching. A collection of tried and tested training resources will be available online to serve as pedagogical support in teacher training and as a stimulation to further develop resources along similar lines.

Eligibility

We are looking for 15 people who:

• are able to work in at least one of the two working languages (English and/or French)
• are aged between 18-30
• are representing/working for a non-governmental youth organisation
• are actively involved in youth projects on Social media issues, including Hate speech online
• are highly interested to cooperate with teachers and educators in a common project related with the project theme
• are in a position to commit themselves to collaborative international work for the full duration of the training course (about 12-18 months: which requires physical attendance during the two residential seminars plus additional involvement on- and offline during this period of time)
• are able to commit themselves to full and active participation throughout all phases of the work
• are working as multipliers in their context, meaning they have the ability to develop and implement (collaborative) projects on the topic within this framework and the proficiency to develop and pilot training materials in their contexts (for more details please see the appended description of the framework of the module series)
• are curious, open-minded and appreciate diversity
