Traineeship at the European Medicines Agency, London

Description
The European Medicines Agency organises traineeships once a year for young university graduates. The European Medicines Agency is a decentralised agency of the European Union, located in London. The Agency is responsible for the scientific evaluation of medicines developed by pharmaceutical companies for use in the European Union. The programme aims to give trainees an understanding of the Agency and its role within the activities of the European Union. It also enables them to acquire practical knowledge in one of the EMA’s Units and to obtain professional experience in the course of their work. The training period lasts at least six months and at most nine months, beginning in October.

Eligibility

  • The programme is addressed to mainly young university graduates, without excluding those who – in the framework of lifelong learning – have recently obtained a university diploma and are at the beginning of a new professional career.
  • A good command of English and one or more other official Community languages is required.
  • Successful candidates should have a background relating to the activities of the EMA, i.e. pharmacy, medicine, life sciences, healthcare, chemistry or information technologies.
  • The Agency also welcomes applications from qualified lawyers with an interest in pharmaceutical regulatory affairs and recently qualified candidates with an interest in human resources, budget and accounts. Candidates with a background in communications, public relations or the web can also apply, as well as people with a background in library and information science.
  • Trainees are selected from nationals of the Member States of the European Union, the European Economic Area – Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway and candidate countries benefiting from a pre-accession strategy. Croatian nationals are eligible to apply as of 1 January 2013.

Remuneration

  • The Agency pays a maintenance grant of £1350 net per month.
  • It also pays a travel allowance to compensate for moving and other costs at the start and end of the traineeship.

How to apply
Candidates should download the application form and use the “submit by email” function. Applications can also be sent by fax or normal mail. If not successful on the first attempt, candidates may re-apply by submitting another application.
