Lillian Gary Taylor Visiting Fellowship in American Literature, Summer 2006

The Mary and David Harrison Institute of the University of Virginia Library invites scholars working in the area of American literature to apply for the Lillian Gary Taylor Fellowship and residency.
Successful applicants are chosen on the strength of their projects, their relevance to the mission of the Harrison Institute, and the ability of the University of Virginia Library to provide appropriate resources for the projects. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing advanced research beyond the graduate level, however we encourage Ph.D. candidates to apply.
We particularly encourage applicants whose projects require access to materials in the Albert and Shirley Small Special Collections Library. Visiting fellows are considered part of the Library’s and University’s intellectual community and while in residence are expected to present their research in a public forum.

The duration of a Taylor Fellow residency can be from one to three months. Preference will be given to applicants who live beyond a 60-mile radius of Charlottesville, VA. Taylor fellows are responsible for arranging their own housing. In addition to full access to the University of Virginia Library collection, all Fellows will be provided with a private office in the Harrison Institute and access to office equipment, fax machine, and copier.

We are able to offer Taylor Fellows a stipend of: $ 3,000

The application deadline for the 2006 summer residency (June, July, August) is: March 21, 2006

Your application will be considered only after you have submitted all the following materials:

  • Current Curriculum Vitae
  • A formal letter describing the researcher’s background, research interests, and planned length of stay; and outlining a proposal for the project to be undertaken while in residence at the Harrison Institute
