Description
The Master of Science in Environmental Studies – Cities and Sustainablity (JEMES CiSu) is a unique 2-year programme offered jointly by the Institute of Environmental Technology and Energy Economics and Institute of Wastewater Management and Water Protection (Technische Universität Hamburg-Harburg, TUHH); the Department of Development & Planning (Aalborg University, AAU); the Institut de Ciència i Tecnologia Ambiental (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, UAB); and the Department of Environment and Planning (Universidade de Aveiro, UA), which enables excellent graduates with first degrees in engineering, science, management and technology to successfully deal with complex urban processes and problems across international, cultural and disciplinary boundaries.

The programme is fully delivered in English and aims to enable excellent graduates with first degrees in engineering, science, management and planning to successfully deal with complex urban processes and problems across international, cultural and disciplinary boundaries.

The programme is full time over 24 months and divided into 4 semesters of study with focus on one overarching theme: Cities & Sustainability.

The programme is divided in two sub-themes:

  • Sustainability Management & Planning (with AAU, and UAB)
  • Sustainable Technologies & Processes (with TUHH, and UA)

Eligibility

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, at a second-class (upper) level or higher, in an engineering, science, technology, or management subject;
  • A minimum total of 16 credits (ECTS) earned in mathematics and basics of natural sciences such as biology, chemistry and physics
  • An appropriate level of competence in the English language, through the attainment of, at a minimum, B2 (Effective Operational Proficiency) in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Proof of English language proficiency has to be provided by each student, except when English is his or her native language or if his or hers first degree has been undertaken in English.

Scholarship

Category A students - students, who are not residents of the EU-Member States, the EEA-EFTA states and the candidate countries for accession to the EU, and who have not carried out their main activities (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any of the above countries:

  • a fixed amount of EUR 8,000 as a contribution to travel and installations and any other costs to be paid in two instalments of EUR 4,000 per year.
  • a contribution to participation costs to the JEMES CiSu programme of EUR 4,000 per semester.
  • a monthly allowance covering living costs of EUR 1,000 for the duration of the programme.


Category B students - students, who are residents of the EU Member States, the EEA-EFTA states and the candidate countries for accession to the EU and who do not fulfil the Category A criteria

  • a fixed amount of EUR 3,000 as a contribution to travel and installations and any other costs to be paid in two instalments of EUR 1,500 per year.
  • a contribution to participation costs to the JEMES CiSu programme of EUR 2,000 per semester.
  • a monthly allowance covering living costs of EUR 500 for the duration of the programme.

Application

The application deadline for these scholarships is 23 December 2013. The submission of the application for the JEMES programme in Cities and Sustainability takes place in two stages, which means that an application is only eligible when a candidate has submitted first an online application HERE and then a paper version of the application prior to the deadline.
