PhD Scholarships in Weather Related Risks (WRR) at UME Graduate School in Italy

 

UME Graduate School of the IUSS Pavia is offering PhD scholarships in Weather-Related Risk (WRR), a one of the three curricula of the doctoral programme in Understanding and Managing Extremes. Eight scholarships will be awarded for a period of 36 months and can be increased by up to 50% during periods abroad. The scholarship is sufficient for covering all general living and accommodation expenses. Application should be submitted till April 11, 2014.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded for a new PhD Programme in Weather-Related Risk (WRR)
 

Eligibility: In order to qualify for the Doctoral Programme in Weather Related Risk candidate should have a University Degree equivalent to Italy’s “Laurea Magistrale”, preferably in Engineering, Geophysics, Physics or similar. Professional background in areas related to atmospheric events will be fairly examined.

Scholarship Description: Weather Related Risk (WRR) is one of the three curricula of the doctoral programme in Understanding and Managing Extremes run by the UME Graduate School. The PhD Programme in Weather-Related Risk involves the attainment of 90 ECTS credit points and the completion of a Doctoral thesis. The financial assistance is provided to cover all general living and accommodation expenses.

Number of award (s): Eight PhD scholarships are awarded in this programme.

Duration of award(s): The duration of the scholarship is 36 months and can be increased by up to 50% during periods abroad.

What does it cover? Apart from the small regional tax (“diritto allo studio“) no participation fees are foreseen for the UME doctoral programme. In addition, candidates admitted to the UME School are generally awarded a doctoral scholarship worth about 1,000 Euro net per month. The scholarship is sufficient for covering all general living and accommodation expenses.

Selection Criteria: Admission to a PhD Degree at the UME School is based on oral examination, following prior selection on the basis of academic qualifications and experience, included in the application form.

Notification: The candidates selected for the oral examination, which will take place on April 23, 2014, will be contacted by the Admission Board. Upon request of the candidate, the oral examination may take place via remote interview (e.g. using Skype), from 24 to 30 April 2014.

How to Apply: The mode of applying is online. When filling in the application form applicants will need to specify the curriculum (or curricula) they are applying to. In order to complete the application form you must upload the following documents (see Application Requirements below for more detailed instructions):
- Curriculum vitae et studiorum
- Copy of diploma certificate(s) (in Italian or English)
- Transcript of attended courses and professional qualifications (in Italian or English)
- Copy of passport or national identity card
- English language test certificate (or waiver referring to previous courses, work experience in English speaking countries, etc.)
