Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA)

The FLTA Program strengthens foreign language instruction on U.S. campuses by establishing a native speaker presence at U.S. educational institutions. The program provides an opportunity for young, international teachers of English to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the cultures and customs of the United States while engaging in non-degree studies.

Requirements 1: FLTA applicants must be no younger than 21 and no older than 29 at time of application. Applicants must be eligible for J-1 visa. As J-1 exchange participants, Teaching Assistants must complete at least two academic courses per semester and may engage in independent research related to their fields of study.

Requirements 2: Fluency in English is mandatory. Must have minimum TOEFL score of 213 CBT.

Requirements 3: Candidates should possess the equivalent of a Bachelor's degree (U.S.) with a good academic record. Master's degrees are highly desirable by many institutions.

Requirements 4: Prior teaching experience is preferred. Fulbright FLTAs teaching strategic languages must be teachers of English or training to be teachers of Englis
