South-eastern Europe and the EU - Leadership Development Programme

The future of South-eastern Europe depends on targeted and consistent action to develop effective civic structures and integrate the region into Euro-Atlantic political, economic and security spheres. The driving force behind the continuing reforms and the transition process are qualified young professionals with international experience. In an effort to support the integration process of the region, the TRANSFUSE Association and the College of Europe from Bruges are launching for the second year a Leadership Development Programme for young people from South-eastern Europe, as well as broader Europe and the United States, who aspire to play an active role in the future of their countries.

Main features of the Programme

The programme will last one year and include:

  • A two-week Academy in Germany, 16-30 September 2007, - the curriculum will include topics related to the European Union and the development of its relations with the South-eastern Europe as well as wider issues of international and economic relations and practical skills development through workshops and simulation games;
  • A three-day Workshop in Belgium (Brussels/Bruges) in Spring 2008 with visits to the EU institutions and NATO;
  • Group Activities in South-eastern Europe, where the participants will work together in small groups to develop a joint activity in their countries.

The participants will be expected to be available during the overall period of the Programme
(July 2007 – April 2008) and to attend each planned activity.
The cost of the participation in the Programme for the successful candidates will be covered by the Programme donors. This will include travel costs, full board and lodging, visa fees and health insurance where required.
The Programme will be led by an Academic Dean, who will guide the participants through the different aspects of the Programme.
