COPERNICUS for Central, East and South-East European Students

COPERNICUS awards for semester in Berlin (Copernicus Berlin) and Hamburg (Copernicus Hamburg) six to ten scholarships to Eastern, Central and South-Eastern European students. The scholarships take about six months. The exact beginning and the exact end depends on the current lecture date of the individual universities. In general, the scholarships for winter semester, however, begin in October and end in late March / early April. For the summer semester is the beginning of the beginning or middle of April and the end of the middle or end of September. Each of the past two to three months of their stay in Germany the scholarship holders complete an internship in a company, an agency or an organization.

The universities offer a variety of lectures, seminars and working groups. The fellows are free to select the subjects. However COPERNICUS expects the fellows that they achieve during the semester at least two power proof (through homework, oral or written examination). To what extent this can be recognized by the home university is to be clarified in advance with their own professors.

The internship, which have to be completed during the residency in Germany is organized by COPERNICUS together with the respective grantees. The fellows apply at the beginning of the study period with the support of Copernicus members of the respective companies. The internship donors are mostly international companies, law firms, government agencies or organizations that primarily are related to Eastern Europe. Internship salaries are not usually paid to the fellows, instead these contribute to the financing of the COPERNICUS program.

Scholarship

COPERNICUS covers for the period of the program the necessary living expenses of grantees, i.e. the costs for accommodation, meals, health insurance, enrollment and public transport. There will also be paid a monthly allowance (currently about 220 EUR). COPERNICUS also finances travel expenses to and from the venue and also visa fees.
