Summer Courses at Hague Academy of International Law

Deadline: 1 March 2014
Open to: candidates holding a 3-year law degree
Scholarship: 1150 Eur and part of travel expenses

Description
The Hague Academy of International Law is a centre for research and teaching in public and private international law, with the aim of further scientific and advanced studies of the legal aspects of international relations.

The well-known summer courses of the Hague Academy, which have been organised from the very outset, take place over a period of six weeks:

The Summer Programme is aimed at students and practitioners seeking a deeper understanding of international law, whether public or private. The Hague Academy of International Law awards all participants to the Summer Courses who have regularly attended the lectures a Certificate of Attendance.

Registration fees:

  • 850 Euro for each three-week session
  • 1600 Euro for both sessions
  • 400 Euro for scholarship students (valid only for one session, this amount will be deducted from the overall scholarship amount of 1150 Euro)

A merit-based scholarship programme allows approximately 20% of participants to the Summer Courses to receive financial assistance from public and private funding sources. The Secretary-General, in the name of the Curatorium, selects scholarship recipients.

Scholarship

  • In general, scholarships are in the amount of 1150 Euros (from which the registration fee of 400 Euros will be deducted)
  • Travel expenses will be partially reimbursed either by the relevant donor or by the Academy
  • Applications for scholarships must relate to only one of the two periods

Candidates cannot register as paying participants and apply for a scholarship for the same session at the same time. In such cases only the scholarship application will be considered. It is however possible to apply for one session at the full fee (e.g. Public International Law) and to apply for a scholarship to attend the other session (e.g. Private International Law).

Applicants can be awarded a scholarship only once. If you already participated in any of their previous Summer Courses on the basis of a scholarship, you are now exclusively admissible at the full fee.

Eligibility

  • Candidates who have completed at least 4 years of university studies, which must have included lectures on international law, and who can prove to the Curatorium that they possess sufficient knowledge of the subject.
  • Candidates holding a 3-year law degree on the date of the opening of the upcoming Summer Courses.

All candidates must master one of the two working languages (French or English).
