Joint International MA Course in Astrophysics

Description

AstroMundus is an international Master Course in Astronomy and Astrophysics that is funded by the European Commission within the Erasmus Mundus programme, 2nd Edition, Action 1. The Master course is open to students of all nationalities and is jointly offered by a consortium of 5 Universities in 4 different countries:

  • the Institute of Astro- and Particle Physics, University of Innsbruck (Austria),
  • the Department of Physics and Astronomy ”Galileo Galilei”, University of Padova (Italy),
  • the Astrophysics section of the Department of Physics, University of Rome ”Tor Vergata” (Italy),
  • the Institute for Astrophysics, Faculty of Physics, University of Goettingen (Germany),
  • the Department of Astronomy, Faculty of Mathematics, University of Belgrade (Serbia)

The selected students will carry out their studies in at least 2 and up to 4 of the AstroMundus consortium universities and will be finally awarded a Joint Master Degree, complemented with a Diploma Supplement, by all consortium universities they have studied at.
 

Eligibility

Applications are now solicited for the Masters Course starting in September 2014. A number of Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available both for non-European and European students. The selection of students and assignment of scholarships are based on excellence.

Applications are invited from top-ranked students that either hold or are expected to obtain before August 2014 a Bachelor’s Degree (or a recognized equivalent Degree that certifies a period of studies of at least 3 years, corresponding to 180 credits in the European Credit Transfer System) in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Mathematics or closely related fields.

A certified good knowledge of the English language is required. Detailed information on who is eligible to apply can be found in the “application section” HERE.
 

Scholarship

  • Category A: They are intended as full scholarships and are reserved to Third Country students. Category A scholarships cover the registration fees (including the insurance), include a contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs of 8000 €, and a monthly allowance of 1000 €/month for the whole duration of the Masters Course (24 months).
  • Category B: They are intended as a financial contribution for European students or for students that have carried out their main activity in one of the European or associated countries for more than 12 months during the last 5 years. Category B scholarships cover the registration fees (including the insurance), include a contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs of 3000 € (this contribution is provided only to students that will have a mobility period at the university of Belgrade), and a monthly allowance of 500 €/month for the whole duration of the Masters Course (24 months).
  • All students that come from a country of the European Union or an EEA-EFTA State (Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein) or students that either are residents or have carried out their main activity (study, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years (as of Feb 28th, 2013) in one of these countries can apply for a scholarship in the category “European students” (Category B).
  • All other students, including students coming from Switzerland, Turkey, and Western Balkan Countries (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo under UNSC Resolution 1244-99, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia) can apply for a scholarship in the category “Third Country students” (Category A).
  • Students who fulfill the requirements of both categories (e.g. students with a double nationality) must select one of the two categories!
