The Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) provides combined research expertise for the personal and professional development of the next generation of arts and humanities doctoral researchers. Through the partnership they aim to deliver excellence in all aspects of research supervision and training. We will assist you in acquiring the best supervision for your field of research, and you will have access to a wide range of facilities and support networks across our campuses. The partnership includes the following universities: Birmingham City University, De Montfort University, Nottingham Trent University, University of Birmingham, University of Leicester and the University of Nottingham.

The Stanley Burton Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, University of Leicester, is the oldest Holocaust research centre in the UK and a vibrant community of academics with far-reaching interdisciplinary networks working on a wide range of cognate projects.

The Centre forms part of the School of History and the College of Arts, Humanities and Law at the University of Leicester, one of the elite British universities with an inclusive, progressive ethos, a record of world-changing research and passionate, inspirational academics.

The Stanley Burton Centre is an important hub of lively academic research and outreach activities. It organizes annual conferences and seminars and invites leading scholars in the field as well as featuring talks by Holocaust survivors and student trips abroad.

The SBC academic staff are keen to assess and supervise any project proposals relating to:

• History of the Holocaust
• Genocide Studies
• The origins and consequences of mass violence
• Holocaust representation across the arts
• Public and national memory of mass conflicts
• Constructions of post-traumatic identity
• Media and the representation of mass violence
• Post-conflict and heritage management

Eligibility
The Centre is inviting applications for PhD positions from British/EU as well as overseas students, offering excellent academic standards of tuition and supervision, attractive funding opportunities, a versatile and prestigious degree, and an ideal university location.

Scholarship
This doctoral scheme provides studentships to enable you to undertake and complete a doctoral degree. Studentships will normally be for up to three years for full-time study, or up to six years for part-time study.

A full-time studentship awards consist of three parts:

• Payment of approved fees (as set and agreed by the Research Councils) – currently £3,900 p.a.
• Maintenance grant (or stipend) for the student – currently £13,726 p.a.
• Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) which includes UK / Overseas fieldwork and attendance at conferences (by application only for current PhD students).

A part-time studentship consists of:

• payment of approved pro-rata part-time fees
• a pro-rata maintenance grant @ 50% (stipend)
• Research Training Support Grant (RTSG) which includes UK / Overseas fieldwork and attendance at conferences (by application only for current PhD students).

Application
The application procedure has three stages:

• Apply for a place to study (deadline 9 Jan 2014): Make your application to your chosen M3C university using their own institutional application procedures. See the website HERE for the links.
• Apply for funding (deadline 9 Jan 2014): Apply for funding through the M3C DTP. See the funding application form BELOW and the guidance notes for applicants BELOW.
• Submit two references (deadline 14 Jan 2014): Two references must be received by the M3C University at which you wish to study. These must be submitted by your nominated referees. You must ensure that referees write your references on the relevant M3C form from the links HERE.
