Cardiff University is offering PhD scholarship in Computer Science & Informatics. The successful candidate will be registered for a full-time 3 years PhD, commencing on 1st October 2014. Scholarship is open to all students of any nationality without further restrictions. The successful candidate will receive an annual stipend in line with the currently recommended EPSRC rate and the School will pay full-time tuition fees at the UK/EU rate. An overseas candidate would need to fund the remainder of the international fees. The application deadline is 1 May 2014.

Eligibility:
-Residency: Open to all students of any nationality without further restrictions.
-Academic Criteria: Candidates should: either have (or expect to have by Autumn 2014) a good honours degree in a relevant discipline (minimum 2:1); or have (or expect to have by Autumn 2014) a masters degree with distinction in the research dissertation in a relevant discipline; or have professional qualifications deemed by Cardiff University to be equivalent to the above; or be over 25 and have relevant work experience in a position of responsibility.
-Degree level mathematics (or equivalent) may be required for some research areas. If your first language is not English you must provide evidence of competence in English. Our standard requirement is an overall IELTS result of at least 6.5, with a minimum of 6.5 in writing, and a minimum of 6.0 in speaking, listening and reading.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Students of any nationality can apply for this PhD scholarship.

Scholarship Description: Applications are invited for a PhD Scholarship in Computer Science & Informatics. The successful candidate will be registered for a full-time 3 year PhD, commencing on 1st October 2014, in one of the School’s research areas: Distributed & Scientific Computing, Informatics and Visual Computing. The Cardiff School of Computer Science & Informatics is a research-led School in one of the UK’s premier universities with a leading, international reputation for excellent teaching and research activities. Candidates should include a research proposal of approximately 500 words with their application. A list of prospective projects in each research group and further information about the School’s PhD programme are available to help guide your application in the three main research areas. Applicants are encouraged to contact relevant staff within the School to refine and align their proposal with the research strategy of the School.

Duration of award(s): Scholarship is offered for three years.

What does it cover? This studentship is very generously funded by the Cardiff School of Computer Science and Informatics. The successful candidate will receive an annual stipend in line with the currently recommended EPSRC rate (£13,726 per annum in 2013/14), and the School will pay full-time tuition fees at the UK/EU rate (currently £3,900 per annum in 2013/14). An overseas candidate would need to fund the remainder of the international fees (currently £16,000 per annum in 2013/14). The scholarship includes provision of a laptop or desktop computer and funds attendance at one national and one international conference during the three years of study. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to supplement the stipend by undertaking teaching assistance within the School. Research students may take up to six hours per week, for which payment would typically be between £60 and £120 (at 2013/14 rates) depending on the type of session. Such activities may include supervising tutorial and practical computing classes and course administrative duties.
