The CIVIS Media Prize is awarded as the European Television Prize, the German Television Prize and as the CIVIS Radio Prize for German-language programmes within Europe. All broadcasts submitted to the European Prize from Germany also qualify for entry into the German CIVIS Television Prize. Consequently, it is not necessary to submit duplicate entries to both the German and European CIVIS Television Prize. The European Television Prize is open to all television broadcasters within the European Union, Bulgaria, Romania and Switzerland. The CIVIS Television Prize is awarded in the Information and Entertainment categories.

All radio stations within the European Union, Bulgaria, Romania and Switzerland are eligible to submit German-language entries for the CIVIS Radio Prize for German-language radio programmes. The Radio Prize is awarded in both the short programme (up to 6 minutes) and long programme (over 6 minutes) categories.

Only radio and television broadcasts publicly aired from January 21, 2006 to January 20, 2007 are eligible for entry and must correspond to the publicly transmitted version. All formats and genres are admissible.   

Registration

In addition to the fully-completed application form, each radio or television entry must be accompanied by two copies and a manuscript – two CDs for radio programmes, and two DVDs/VHS cassettes for television programmes. Nominated TV or radio magazines should also include a detailed breakdown of the broadcast’s contents and a schedule of the running order.

Radio and television broadcasts consisting of two or more parts qualify as a serial. In the case of a serial or series being nominated, a maximum of up to three episodes only may be submitted.

The television entries must be submitted in either German, English or French or with an adequate translation of the original into one of these languages. The radio programmes must be submitted in German. The organisers shall not reimburse any costs for the entries submitted nor any associated financial expenses incurred. The submitted DVDs, VHS cassettes or CDs are not returnable and become the property of the CIVIS medien stiftung GmbH (CIVIS Media Foundation).

An independent, international jury of leading journalists and media experts will adjudicate on the radio and television entries and select the prize-winners. The decision of the jury is final.

The closing date for registrations of entries is January 20, 2007.

The organisers have the right to publicly broadcast the submitted radio and television broadcasts free of charge, within the scope of the coverage of the prize-giving ceremony by WDR Radio and Television (also for the ARD, among others), permit their broadcast by third parties or post them on the ARD/WDR/CIVIS websites. Individual images, photos and/or parts of the submitted television programmes may also be used in connection with the prize-giving ceremony and the associated media coverage. The CIVIS medien stiftung GmbH (CIVIS Media Foundation) may also grant to third parties the rights to individual images, particularly sponsors of the prize.

With entry registration for the CIVIS Media Prize 2007, the above conditions of entry are deemed to be accepted. Incomplete or incorrect information may result in disqualification from the competition. Legal action is excluded.
