"Street Furniture Design" competition

REGULATIONS

Introduction

Metropolitan areas today are complex landscapes crossed daily by thousands of people who do not necessarilyhave local ties, but in addition to traditional citizens, they live in there not only permanently but traverse and use them tirelessly 24 hours a day.
For this reason street furniture, within the city, is acquiring increasingly important properties. It distinguishesthe quality, livability and recognizability within the territory of the diffuse city. Street furniture, if properly designed, helps enrich the experience of citizens and users of a given place.
The traditional elements of street design, such as benches, signage and shelters, can thus become sources of inspiration for creating more complex "urban furniture", true design objects, conceived for the cities of today and the foreseeable future, created both as elementary units and in relation to the traditional individual elements of street furniture.

Given the increasing complexity of cities it is becoming more urgent to imagine new urban devices that have the ability to act as signs of a strong identity and at the same as places that protect people temporarily while offering news, information, and digital materials about the area being traversed.
The objective of the Third Edition of the Premio Lissone is to imagine a new generation of street furniture capable of helping in the creation of these new elements, urban furniture designed to meet the needs of the new city.
These original metropolitan objects may incorporate urban functions that have emerged recently, from the distribution of fresh milk to natural water, through new forms of relationship between the citizen and the urban module, but they can also be active devices capable of receiving and recording information left by visitors.

We imagine these urban furnishings as objects resistant to the elements and vandalism, conceived with materials and methods of processing and production that take account of the maximum levels of sustainability, dismantling and recycling.
In this way submissions might suggest the creation of simple, everyday items such as those that traditionally populate our cities, complex urban furnishings which integrate various functions required by the citizens.
An additional quality of these urban furnishings and objects is the ability to make them arise out of the context and relate to the territory. In this vision the City of Lissone will become a virtuous example to start from, the city of wood and production of advanced design is the perfect area to begin this research, by devising projects and the related prototypes to be sited in the City of Lissone.
