The Institute for Information Law invites Fellowship Applications for Spring and Summer 2011

The Institute for Information Law (IViR) invites persons who share our passion for information law and policy, and who wish to spend time at the institute to conduct research in this field. IViR Fellows may participate in all the ongoing activities of the institute, test their ideas and expose them to the different perspectives and specialisms of the IViR staff, and thus contribute to the vibrant intellectual climate of our institute. Over time we plan to build an active fellowship community whose members all have one thing in common: that they are dedicated to the advancement of knowledge on the laws and policies that govern the information society.

IViR Fellowships are open to scholars, post-docs, practitioners, professionals working at NGO’ s and public bodies, and others. We also encourage applicants from the non-legal disciplines to come to Amsterdam to study topics that overlap with our research agenda. For an overview of our research interests, please consult the institute’s research program.

Applications are now open for the Spring and Summer of 2011, and should be submitted by February 1, 2011. Please address to:

Prof. P. Bernt Hugenholtz
Director, Institute for Information Law
University of Amsterdam
Email: hugenholtz@uva.nl

Applications should include: a letter of motivation, a brief outline of your research proposal, a CV and one or two sample publications that reflects your work and research interests. Please also indicate the desired period and intended length of your stay.

We ask: an inspiring research proposal, a proven interest in information law or related areas, and a commitment to be physically present at the institute and to actively engage in its activities. We offer: working space, computer and internet facilities, access to the Institute’s very well-equipped Documentation Centre as well as access to the research infrastructure of the University of Amsterdam, a stimulating research environment in a historic building in the heart of Old Amsterdam, and plenty of good conversations.

While fellows are expected to organise their own funding, we may in exceptional situations contribute to travel and accommodation costs. Occasionally fellows may be invited to participate in an ongoing research project if that would match their expertise and interests, in which case they will be adequately compensated.
