Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Scholarships

The Faculty of Arts is pleased to announce the following scholarships for postgraduate study and research to applicants for 2008 entry. Graduates from any UK or overseas university are eligible. The scholarships will be awarded to provide outstanding candidates with support for a year of postgraduate study at MA, MPhil, MLitt or PhD level in any field of the Arts, Humanities or Modern Languages.

Scholarships

6 x Open Scholarships
These scholarships, each with a value of £2000, are open to applicants for full-time MA, M.Phil., or M.Litt./Ph.D. programmes

3 x Subject Scholarships one for each of the following MA programmes:
English Literature
European Literatures (Programme pending approval)
Film and Television Production

1 x Ashley Watkins Scholarship for postgraduate study in French
This scholarship, with a value of £2000, is open to applicants for a full-time MA in European Literatures (French) or an M.Phil. or M.Litt./Ph.D. programme in the field of French.

1 x Ashley Watkins Scholarship for postgraduate study in Modern Languages
This bursary, with a value of £2000, is open to applicants for
a full time MA in European Literatures or an M.Phil.
or M.Litt./Ph.D. programme in any aspect of Modern Languages. 

Eligibility
Candidates for any of the above scholarships must be current applicants for a postgraduate taught or research programme in the Faculty of Arts and must be in receipt of an offer prior to the closing date (1 May 2008).
Candidates for scholarships may be graduates of any UK, EU or overseas university or equivalent Higher Education institution.
Candidates for the postgraduate cash prizes must be current students in the University of Bristol.

Application Method
Applicants for any of the above scholarships should complete, print and sign the Application Form clearly indicating for which award they wish to be considered.
Candidates must include with their application a research proposal outlining the programme of research to be undertaken during their tenure of the award, i.e., as part of their MA, M.Phil., or M.Litt./Ph.D. programme.
Candidates must instruct two academic referees to write in support of their application for any of these scholarships and prizes.

The application form must be returned to the Postgraduate Administrator, Faculty of Arts, University of Bristol, 3-5 Woodland Road, Bristol.

References should be returned to the same address together with the application form, or applicants should instruct referees to write under a separate cover.

The closing date for applications for all scholarships and prizes is 1 May 2008.
Successful candidates will be notified before 31 May 2008.
