Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program

The Charles G. Koch Summer Fellow Program combines a paid public policy internship with two career skills seminars and weekly policy lectures. You’ll gain real-world experience, take a crash course in market-based policy analysis, and hone your professional skills. The intensive ten-week program begins in June and includes a $1,500 stipend and a housing allowance.

1. Program Elements

  • 10-week program: June 4 – August 12, 2011

Two Policy Tracks

Internships are available at more than 100 think tanks and nonprofits involved with state or federal policy located across the United States.

State Policy – Intern at a State Policy Network think tank in one of more than 34 states. Influence legislation and analyze regulations at the state level. Help publish articles, editorials, or letters in state or local papers. Choose from more than 45 organizations including Texas Public Policy Foundation, Goldwater Institute, and Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Learn more »

Federal Policy – Intern at one of more than 40 Washington, DC, organizations. Help reduce the size and scope of the federal government. Choose from a range policy issues: Americans for Tax Reform strives to reduce taxes; Drug Policy Alliance wants to end drug prohibition; Environmental Literacy Council promotes free market environmental solutions. 2. Application Details

To apply to the program, please submit the following:

  • An online application
  • An electronic or paper copy of your college transcript with your name clearly printed on the transcript (unofficial copies, photocopies, and electronic versions are acceptable)

The application will ask you to upload your transcript. Please submit your transcript in one of the following file formats: *.pdf, *.rtf, *.doc, or *.jpg. (To create a PDF of your document for free, we recommend the PDF 995 Windows program.)

Submitting your transcript online is the preferred method, though we will accept it via mail if you do not have an electronic version (see address below). Do not send extraneous material, i.e., diplomas, certificates, or papers. These materials will not be considered.

The program provides a $1,500 stipend plus housing assistance. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. The sooner you apply to the Koch Summer Fellow Program, the more likely you will be placed at an internship in your specified area of interest.

Applicants who fail to follow the above directions may be disqualified.

3. Eligibility

Undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates between the ages of 18-30. Past applicants are encouraged to re-apply and re-submit all documents.
