The 21st Century COE (Center of Excellence) program of Nagaoka University of Technology (NUT) established an ongoing COE-Scholarship fund. It will offer the opportunity to sustain research activities to highly potential PhD-course-students from overseas.

(1) Benefits and conditions
Tuition fee (535,800 yen/year) is exempted for 3 years.
Admission fee (282,000 yen) is defrayed by NUT COE Fund.
Start-up fund for COE Scholarship Students is provided by NUT COE Faculty Fund.
The scholarship provides monthly allowances of approximately 100,000 yen; and more, if the student's performance is highly evaluated.
Number of grantees: 10 persons per year.
Scholarship period: From April, 2006 to March, 2009.

(2) Eligibility
Be interested in the major fields of our COE Program.
Hold Master's degree or equivalent, or expect to obtain Master's degree by the end of March, 2006.
Be under 40 years old as of April 1, 2006.
Be NOT in military service.

If you are interested in the COE scholarship and wish to apply for it, follow the instructions below;

• To begin with, email Secretary, COE immediately at coegreen@vos.nagaokaut.ac.jp and show your interest in COE program.
• Fill in Curriculum Vitae (form provided) and email it to coegreen@vos.nagaokaut.ac.jp.
• Send Academic Record, Certificate of Masterfs degree, and Copy of Masterfs thesis and publications [Item 2., 3., 4., and 5. in (2) Documents to be submitted on the page of Application Procedure] in order to reach us not later than December 9, 2005.

We will send results of the first screening to the successful candidates by December 31, 2005 and inform them of the next procedures.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR ADMISSION
TO THE DOCTORAL PROGRAM
IN THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING

(1) Application deadline
For the first screening: December 9, 2005
For the final screening: January 26, 2006

(2) Documents to be submitted

• Application Form for Admission (with a photograph of the applicant)
  The photograph should have been taken within the last 3 months, frontal upper body and hatless, 40 X 30 mm.
• Leave"Preferred Course", "Preferred Professor or Associate Professor", or "Preferred Field of Study" blank, if you are not certain. (form provided)
• Academic Record of undergraduate and master programs
  (with the institution's authorized stamp or signature)
• Certificate of Master's degree or statement that confirms expected graduation
  (with the institution's authorized stamp or signature)
• Copy of Masterfs thesis
  An applicant who expects to complete the degree must submit the thesis title and progress report on his/her study. (form not provided)
• Copy of publications (International/Regional Journal), if any
• Application Document (form provided)
• Certificate of Health (completed and signed by the examining physician)
  The applicant should have been examined within 3 months of application. (form provided)
• 2 photographs (40 X 30mm)
• Passport copy
  The applicant should submit copies of the cover and the pages with his/her name, nationality, photograph and date of birth on.

NOTE: Documents will not be returned and no change regarding the contents of the documents will be accepted except change of the applicant's address or telephone number.
(3) Submission of application documents
The applicant should send these documents by registered express mail. Write "Application Forms for COE (Green) Scholarship" on the envelope and address them to Kyoko SUGIMOTO, Secretary, COE (Green Energy Revolution).

(4) Screening
The screening will be done on the basis of Curriculum Vitae and the application documents.
(5) Notification of Acceptance :   February 23, 2006

The successful scholarship recipients will receive formal notification of acceptance from both Section of Entrance Examination, NUT and COE (Green Energy) Program by post and by email.
