Overseas Research Students Award Scheme (ORSAS)

All MPhil/PhD applicants of excellent academic standing are eligible to apply for the Overseas Research Students Award Scheme (ORSAS). This is a competitive scholarship scheme funded by the UK Government that awards the difference between the "overseas" and "UK/EU" rate of tuition fees, with the objective of encouraging the very best young researchers to come to the UK for MPhil/PhD study. Up to 24 ORSAS awards may be available in 2006/2007 at the University of Liverpool. All successful ORSAS candidates will automatically receive a University of Liverpool International Scholarship to the value of the UK rate of tuition fees (£3,085 in 2005/2006), plus a further £1,000 towards living expenses. ORSAS awards and University of Liverpool International Scholarships for research students are tenable for up to three years, subject to good academic progress.

Applicants should have been made an offer of a place at the University to read for MPhil/PhD before they apply for an ORSAS award. A suitable research project must have been agreed with the proposed supervisor before an application is submitted.
