Germany: 3-year PhD program and PhD scholarships 2006 at the RGS Econ

The Ruhr Graduate School in Economics (RGS Econ) is a Graduate Program providing a doctoral education in economics with the highest academic standards. Started in 2004, it was initiated and founded by three universities of Germany’s Ruhr Area - the University of Bochum, the University of Dortmund and the University of Duisburg-Essen - as well as by RWI Essen, one of Germany's leading economic research institutes. This cooperation pools together a think-tank of top level researchers with a worldwide reputation for their academic achievements. Graduate students at the RGS Econ are thus provided with a unique learning environment, including a well-structured teaching program in small groups with individual coaching, as well as modern infrastructure.

The PhD program provides postgraduate education in all relevant fields of modern economics, covering formal theoretical and empirical econometric analyses in labor and population economics, industrial economics, microeconomics, macroeconomics and public economics. Over a period of three years, graduate students receive guidance leading to a PhD in economics, complying with highest international standards.

Generous funding by the German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and by private partners guarantees that participation is free of tuition fees and that a number of scholarships (1250 Euros per month) can be offered to students. The RGS Econ is looking worldwide for applicants with an excellent academic record and a Master, Diploma or equivalent degree in economics or related fields. The teaching and research curriculum is entirely in English, hence a good command of English is a prerequisite.

The deadline for applying is May 15, 2006. The academic year starts on October 1, 2006.
