Description
Peace and Development Research at the University of Gothenburg is a leading site of interdisciplinary and action-oriented enquiry. The 50 researchers in the subject group take a broad range of approaches to peace and development, including but not limited to conflict research, critical security studies, gender analysis, human rights, global political economy, regional studies, and resistance studies. The aim of doctoral studies is to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to conduct autonomous research within the field of peace and development.

Eligibility
An applicant meets the general entry requirements for third-cycle studies if he/she has obtained:

  • A degree at the second-cycle level;
  • At least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 must be at the second-cycle level;
  • Largely equivalent knowledge in other ways in Sweden or abroad.

Studentships
The doctoral studentships begin September 2016 and cover four years (full-time equivalent, fixed term). The position holder may undertake departmental duties corresponding to up to 20% of full-time. In this case, the duration of the appointment will be extended accordingly. The studentships cover tuition costs plus salary as an employee of the University of Gothenburg.

How to apply?
The mode of application is online. The application must include:

  • A Master’s thesis and any other relevant papers or publications. The texts must be submitted in Swedish or English. Any translated versions must be accompanied by the original text;
  • A project draft indicating the applicant’s research interests and planned focus area of dissertation work. The project draft must demonstrate familiarity with previous and current research as well as an ability to formulate scientific problems. Maximum 2000 words;
  • Copies of academic transcripts verifying that the general and specific entry requirements stated above have been met. Evidence of other relevant qualifications.
