The Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics is pleased to offer fellowship for pursuing postdoctoral research programme. Non-German applicants are eligible to apply for this fellowship programme.

The Institute provides modern educational and research environments that will enable students and researchers to face current challenges and to focus on knowledge as a principle driving force for development.

The Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) is the largest research institute in the world specializing in general relativity and beyond.

The required level of German language proficiency primarily depends on the planned research project. In any case, a working knowledge of German (or English and/or French) is expected in order to facilitate integration into the Institute’s community.

Course Level: Fellowship is available for pursuing postdoctoral research programme.

Study Subject: Scientists at the AEI focus on all aspects of Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Their research ranges from geometrical and analytical aspects of the theory to the unification of general relativity and quantum mechanics all the way to the modeling, data analysis, and astrophysics of gravitational waves. It also covers experimental approaches and techniques required to open a new window to the Universe and to test predictions of general relativity.

Scholarship Award: Each year the AEI will grant a limited number of Max Planck fellowships to outstanding foreign post-doctoral scientists who wish to spend up to two years at the institute. The Max Planck fellowship program offers three different stipends, depending on research track-record and achievements (net monthly stipend of €2,100, €2,300 or €3,000) plus some benefits and moving-cost reimbursements.

Scholarship can be taken at: Germany

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for fellowship:

  • outstanding non-German scientists are invited to apply and spend up to two years at the Albert Einstein Institute in Potsdam and Hannover.
  • each year the AEI will grant a limited number of Max Planck fellowships to outstanding foreign post-doctoral scientists who wish to spend up to two years at the institute.

Nationality: Non-German applicants are eligible to apply for this fellowship programme.

College Admission Requirement

English language Requirements: Applicants need not be proficient in German. To ensure smooth and effective communication with Institute staff members and other guests, applicants should at a minimum have a strong command of either German or English. The required level of German language proficiency primarily depends on the planned research project. In any case, a working knowledge of German (or English and/or French) is expected in order to facilitate integration into the Institute’s community

Germany Scholarships

Electronic Portable Document Format (PDF) submittals are strongly preferred. Applicants would need to indicate the names of three referees for recommendation letters. Referees will be notified by email on how to upload the letters. The Max Planck Society is committed to increase the number of women and individuals with disabilities in its workforce in areas where they are under-represented. Thus, it encourages applications from such qualified individuals.

How to Apply: The mode of application is online.
