Scholarship Contest

The European School of Economics is an international university with campuses in London, New York, Rome, Milan and Lucca offering undergraduate (BA Hons), graduate (MA, MBA, Online MBA) courses.

Organisations, whatever their nature, rely on people, especially on leaders, to build and sustain them. The competitiveness of today's marketplace and the pressure on organisations to adapt to change as never before, increased the need for management expertise to be developed to its optimum and to go on adapting to constantly changing conditions.

Our philosophy is based on partnership and participation. We provide opportunities for managers to acquire new skills and realise the full potential of those skills they already have. We provide challenging experiences that provoke this change in people, give insight and knowledge to help our students benefit from this experience and offer our continued support through the whole learning process.

The only certainty is that there is a need for a new breed of business men and women.

In Economics, as in politics, there is a need for courageous, well-prepared, sincere individuals - leaders able to harmonise the ever-apparent antagonisms in today’s business world: free markets and ethics, pure emotion and reasoning, financial power and empathy. The Mission of the European School of Economics is to prepare these men and women, young entrepreneurs and managers, with the necessary cultural preparation, practical experience and moral qualities in order to manage today's business scenario.

Economics is the reflection of our ideas and values. If a society's ideas and system of values evolve, its economy evolves as well.

ESE presents a new philosophy to business management training that offers more than just knowledge and skill. It provides a student with the determination and courage to make an impact on today's changing world of business.

The European School of Economics is committed to helping dedicated and deserving students meet their educational goals through a focused and merit-based scholarship program. The School feels that students of limited means and/or extraordinary academic achievement should have the opportunity to avail themselves of the high quality education that ESE offers. The European School of Economics awards scholarships to the most qualified full-time MBA candidates.

Below you will find the question and the general rules to participate the competition. You can find more details about the MBA programme by clicking here.

The question: Provide your comments on the following chosen passage from the book “The School for Gods” by Stefano E. D’Anna: “The world is shaped according to your degree of inner responsibility. You can possess only what you are responsible for”.

This explains why countries that are richest in natural resources are often the poorest, and why a man's enrichment is not a sufficient condition to rescue him from his destiny, when it does not correspond to an improvement of quality in his thoughts and being.

An unprepared man, even if momentarily favoured by an event or by external circumstances, is pushed back to his old poverty if what he has exceeds his level of responsibility and commitment. This is true for a country or for an organisation or for a man.

After more than half a century of failures in the programmes of international aids, we should have understood that it is not possible to help from the outside a country (or a man or a company) that is not yet ready in its Being.
